Artist's Description

The historic Point Reyes Lifeboat Station is nestled in the protected cove in the Chimney Rock area of Drakes Bay. This view of the station features the long launching pier with the marine rails descending from the boathouse to the water. The lifeboat itself takes up a substantial portion of the first floor of the building. A feeling of a caring civilized presence extending out into the wild expanse of the bay and further to the Pacific Ocean. Many lives were saved by the Guardsmen of this facility before its closure in 1969.

About Tom Pittard

Tom Pittard

My California landscape paintings represent a search, a seeking for a kind of natural luminosity and experience of free space in the world. The techniques and process of creating the original oil paintings are variable and greatly influenced by the nature of the subject itself.
